The Harmonious Path, Pisa
2023
The project's aim is to restore the connectivity of the historical walls of Pisa while also creating different forms of leisure and contemplation during the path. Therefore, a metallic elevated circulation path was developed around and above the walls as well as the use of 3 different sites as flexible spaces connected by the circulation for the use of the inhabitants of Pisa and the city's visitors.
An important reference to the project were the folies in the Parc de la Villette located in Paris. Consisting of installations disposition in the park following a grid. In the case of the Pisa project, the circulation is part of the installation, and the public spaces are disposed according to the historical wall's axis.
The walls also lead to the meeting with the bridge, which has been renovated for pedestrian use only. It can also be accessed from the level of the walls, where has been created two elevated platforms which offer a unique view on the historic city of Pisa.
This project not only celebrates the architectural significance of the historical walls but also embraces the transformative power of design to enrich the lives of individuals and strengthen the bond between a city and its heritage. It encourages a deep connection with Pisa's past while embracing the present and embracing the future.
